How Meditation Can Change Your Life
When I look back at my life, my thoughts, and the person that I use to be, which doesn’t seem very long ago, I don’t even know who that person is. If you would of asked me 10 years ago what is meditation or awareness, I would of told you – it’s something that people do when they are bored and have nothing better to fill their time with.
Around that time, I met one of my now best friends, that I consider my sister. Almost immediately we became very close and interconnected. When I first met her, I felt that she had this incredible energy that surrounded her, but at the time I could’t really explain what it was. After a while I noticed that everyone else who met her felt exactly the same way, she had this strong and calm presence. She is very wise, she always makes these incredibly clear decisions in her life, which I find very hard for an average person to comprehend.
She was the first person who introduced me to meditation, never in words, but in actions.
What is meditation?
To put it very simple – it’s work on your self, it’s a lot of work, and it’s constant work. Meditation puts us in the middle of our selves, and sometimes it’s hard to see things for what they really are, but it’s necessary to grow. Meditation opens up your eyes and makes you see things completely clear, there is no more questioning what is the right thing to do, or what you should do next, you just know.
For some, it may not be such a good thing, because seeing your self, your life, situations, and other people in a much altered state of mind, can bring things from your subconscious that you might not want or ready to deal with. It could be a little overwhelming, because if you’re blind all your life and all of a sudden you can see everything, it can be frightening, but that feeling won’t last long. I personally think, sometimes we all just need a great dose of such reality check by taking our blind folds off. Once you taste this type of reality, it sticks with you, but it doesn’t mean that it wont take work to keep on giving your self those reality checks all the time.
Other times we have a tendency to slip back to our old ways, you know why we do that? Because it’s easier to be blind. It’s easier to get angry, rather than think rationally, it’s easier to give up, rather than pick your self up when you can barely walk, it’s just easier to judge others rather than only seeing the good in them. But do you want to be like that? Do you want to live making your self believe that things are the way they are because they are meat to be? Or do you want to be in charge of your own life, make your own rules and see things in a clear state of mind? I do. If want to take your blinds off, and take your life to a whole new level, than meditations is for you.
My experience with meditation
Have you ever felt so overwhelmed that you feel there is no place to escape? It almost feels like you can deal with anything, but a piece of something is missing. For me it came about 5 years ago or so, I was in this extremely absurd situation in my life, it was so absurd that I though I was dreaming and I kept trying to wake up. But the nightmare wouldn’t go away, it was like something was shaking me and trying to wake me up. The only thing that kept me from not ripping my hair out of my scalp was – daily breathing meditation. It just felt like the right thing to do, so I did it. I would religiously wake up, close my eyes, and breathe. After my meditation, I would always feel calm and together, and I felt like nothing can bring me down. It has some kind of power over you, that you might not fully understand right away. Every time I would do it, it made me stronger and stronger as a person. It made me see things in a different way, in a way that I wasn’t use to seeing them. And I thought to my self, why doesn’t everyone do this? When I look back at my life before and I look at my life now, it’s completely unrecognizable.
I realized something, when really bad things start to happen around us, it is a life’s way of trying to wake us up. And those things will keep on happening unless you wake up.
Right now I feel very much in control of all of the events in my reality, all of the people in my reality, and my life in general. I am not saying it’s always peaches and cream, because it’s a journey of learning, but I’ve got it down to where I know what’s up.
When we close our eyes and observe our thoughts, we connect to the source of our true self. We also begin to have a separation from our ego ( the self with all of the negative habits ). Your ego will fight for a while, you might even have dreams about it ( but that’s a whole other subject ). And after you start meditation on a regular basis, you will have more and more meaningful dreams every day, and you will begin to remember all of them. It’s like having a constant guide in your life.
Where should you start
The best thing about finding your sense of self and connecting to your true balance, it’s that it doesn’t have the same rules for everyone. There are are hundreds if not thousands of way to do that. You should always find ways that work for you, only that way you can make those ways stick.
You can start with many simple methods, such as listening to some pleasant meditation music, such as binaural beats meditation. Binaural Beats effect the vibrations of our brain and place you in a very relaxed state. All you would have to do is wear headphones and breathe. If any thoughts will come to mind just observe them, don’t fight them. Start with 5 minutes, then increase it to 10 or 15. There will come a time, when you would want to meditate for a much longer time than that, when that time comes you will know.
You can also do just regular breathing with your palms up, either sitting or laying down. In the morning or just before bed time. Also start with 5 minutes and progress up to longer time later on. Light up some incense, it always makes me relaxed much faster.
Another method is picturing a white light coming from the crown of your head all the way through your body, filling you with energy, balance and happiness. Because our mind is so powerful, what ever you program your self with during meditation, that’s how you will feel after.
Lately I’ve been really enjoying taking trips to the beach and meditating by the ocean. The sounds of waves just clear my head and make me feel new again. This is one of my favorites methods. When we are around nature, it is much easier to connect to our self. But as I said earlier, find a way that works for you.
These methods are all for beginners. Later on you can explore Chakra Meditation. This is very big subject and I will eventually discuss it in some later posts. Because it requires a lot of explanation and I don’t want to bore you with information overload, since this post is already pretty long.
Try to incorporate simple meditation methods into your daily routine, and it will create an incredible journey for your life.
