Protein Rice Milk Recipe
Yesterday I got this idea that popped into my head, can I make a nutritious rice milk that has protein in it? Sometimes it’s good to give your self a variety of different milk to drink. As soon as I got the idea I had to give it a try. I’m glad that I try these things first so I can save you from a lot of mess ;).
There are definitely a lot of different ways of making rice milk. I am personally more simple when it comes to cooking and I only like to use a few ingredients. You can use basmati rice but I wanted to make the healthier version of rice milk so I went with brown rice. Basmati rice has more aroma in it, but brown rice has more nutrients and you can’t beat that :).
I made almost a gallon of this milk, so it will last me for a week. This recipe is pretty cool because you can also use the remaining of the rice to make either a bread or a pudding. I made a bread.
The Ingredients
- 1. 10 oz of Brown Rice ( or basmati rice )
- 2. Four cinnamon sticks
- 3. Sea Salt
- 4. Two scoops of Vanilla Whey Isolate Protein Powder ( this has about 50 g of protein, you can add an extra scoop if you like, I think next time I am going to add the extra scoop for sure ).
- 5. A little less than 1 gallon of water
You can also add raw honey if you like your milk sweet. I don’t really like sweet milk so I skip on honey.
You will also need a container to pour the milk into. I used a plastic water gallon container.
Wash the rice really well. Place the rice into a boiling pan, add the cinnamon stick and water.
Turn the heat on medium ( NOT high ). When the water begins to get hot, add 3 teaspoons of sea salt and mix. You don’t want the pot to boil, this way you will keep more nutrients from the rice and cinnamon. When you boiled the food it looses it’s nutritional value. Set a timer to 50 minutes. But always check to make sure it’s not boiling.
When the timer beeps turn off the stove and let it cool. After it cooled take out all the cinnamon sticks.
Get your blender ready :). I made it in 2 batches. Don’t overfill the blender, otherwise you will end up splashing that thing everywhere ( I did 🙂 ).
The scenario of me making this milk was totally hilarious. When I was making the first batch, I didn’t close the lid on the blender tight enough, and it splashed on my face. At first I was mad, but then I just started laughing.
Fill up the blender with some of the rice water from the pot, add 3 table spoons of rice and a scoop of protein powder. Blend for at least 30 seconds, you will have a froth when you open the blender.
Now pour it into a container, do the other batch the same way ( 3 table spoons of rice, rice water and a protein powder scoop ). Place it into the refrigerator and cool it for several hours, preferably overnight. It is suppose to be a very chilled drink.
Always remember to shake well before serving.
What to do with the remaining rice: I don’t like wasting food, so what you can do is make a pudding ( since it tastes like cinnamon, I wouldn’t eat it as regular rice ).
To make a pudding combine into the blender or a food processor:
- Cup of rice
- Half a cup of almond milk ( or a regular milk if you like, but I don’t drink regular milk )
- Raw Honey
You can also add a scoop of vanilla whey isolate protein powder ( I add it everywhere, because protein is very essential to eat in every meal ).
